CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police say two cars were involved in a drive-by shooting in the Gold Coast early Wednesday, and now authorities are looking for the suspect who opened fire and drove off.
A black Dodge Charger driven by the victim was traveling southbound on the S-curve at Oak Street around 1:30 a.m. Police say the 31-year-old man was shot when a grey Ford Mustang pulled up to his vehicle around the 1000-block of Lake Shore Drive and opened fire.
The victim crashed his car into a sign and then a fence in front of a building at Lake Shore and Delaware.
A doorman working in a building across the street said he heard the gunshots.
"Four or five I think. All I hear is some car knocking the sign down, and then I saw the car jumping the curb over there," said Juan Melendez.
Police say the victim refused treatment for his gunshot wound. His car's window was shot out, and the side of the vehicle was riddled with bullet holes.
Area North investigators are asking anyone with information to give them a call.
