Man struck and killed by train in the Bronx after being pushed into tracks

MOUNT EDEN -- A man was struck and killed by a subway train after authorities say he was pushed onto the tracks in the Bronx Sunday morning.

It happened at about 8:45 a.m., at the D train station at Grand Concourse and East 167th Street.

Police say the victim, a 61-year old man from the Bronx, was on the southbound platform with his wife when the incident occurred. Surveillance cameras captured paramedics helping the woman, who was clearly in distress, walk to am ambulance.

He was hit by a southbound D train. The man has been identified as Wai Kuen Kwok.

Police say the preliminary investigation revealed that he was pushed onto the roadbed in front of the incoming train by a suspect who fled the scene.

"The MTA workers, between them saying 'I can't believe someone got pushed in front of a train, they were really panicking," says eyewitness Anthony Atkinson.

Police say seconds after the fatal plunge, the suspect ran out of the station, where police were still looking for him Sunday night, asking anyone who saw anything to call the NYPD.

Police say at least 2 cars barreled over Kwok, killing him instantly, his wife standing by helplessly.

There have been three other incidents in recent years that involved a person being pushed onto the tracks.

In April 2013, a train ran over a man desperately clawing at a Manhattan subway platform after being pushed onto the tracks by a homeless suspect with whom he'd been arguing.

In December 2012, another homeless man was arrested for pushing a Queens straphanger in front of a Times Square train that fatally crushed him.

And later the same month, a mumbling woman pushed a man to his death in front of a subway train in Queens.
