CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police issued a safety alert Wednesday morning, warning of a strange man who followed an 11-year-old boy home on Chicago's Far Northwest Side.

The child was walking in the 5100-block of North McVicker Avenue in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood around 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

That's when a man driving a tan, four-door SUV pulled up next to the boy and said, "Hey, what's up?"

The child ran away. Police said the suspect followed him and watched him go inside his home. He circled the block once before driving away.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 30's with dark-colored hair, a beard and blue eyes. The vehicle he was driving may have been a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Area North detectives at 312-744-8200.
