WALLS, Miss. -- DeSoto County, Miss., authorities say law enforcement shot and killed a fugitive outside a bank in Walls, Mississippi.

DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco tells WMC-TV that officers shot the man after he turned his gun on them and opened fire. It happened around 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The Hernando Police Department says the man tried to get a driver's license at a nearby DMV. When his information was plugged into the system, it showed that he was wanted in Chicago for sexual battery and was considered armed and dangerous.

The man fled the office and led police on a chase that ended at the Citizens Bank & Trust in Walls where a standoff lasted for more than hour before the deadly shooting occurred.

The suspect's name has not been released.
