Man's own dog helps police arrest him on drug charges

PRATTVILLE, AL -- An Alabama man is in custody on drug charges after his own dog helped authorities track him down.

On Tuesday, the Prattville Drug Enforcement Unit was trying to execute a search warrant at the home of Edward Melvin Henderson. As officers were pulling up to the home, they say Henderson fled on foot from the rear of the residence.

Behind the home was a ravine that authorities say Henderson jumped into. As authorities were heading towards the ravine, they say Henderson's dog, Bo, came running up.

Bo looked at one of the investigators, who told the dog to go get him. They say Bo ran to the ravine, but Henderson ran into a wooded area.

Investigators ran to the wooded area to try to locate Henderson, but apparently the dog beat them to it. Bo found Henderson lying in tall grass and was wagging his tail, which alerted authorities.

Henderson was taken into custody without incident. Investigators say when they executed the search warrant, they found meth and components of a meth lab.

Henderson was charged with failure to obey police, unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
