The remains of Milan Lekich have been positively ID'd the same weekend that remains were also found at the home of his mother-in-law, a missing woman.

The latest remains were found at Nena Metoyer's house in the 500-block of East Fifth Street in Fowler, police said. Metoyer is the mother-in-law of Lekich.

Lekich disappeared more than a year ago from Chicago's Hegewisch neighborhood and was last seen at Metoyer's house, police said.

Lekich's wife was found dying in her Fowler home last month, which is when police noted her mother, Metoyer, was missing.

The cause of Lekich's death is still under investigation. His remains were found at his home in Hegewisch last week. The body parts, wrapped in plastic and a blanket, were found by a woman Oct. 5 at 3:20 p.m. at a home in the 13300-block of South Avenue M on the city's Far South Side. She told police she smelled something, so looked inside a garbage container and found the remains wrapped in bubble wrap.

"I walk my dogs. I go by that garage all the time. I walk down that alley. I never caught any smells or whatever, anything out of place over there," Robert Oshwat, neighbor, said.

Chicago police issued an alert for Lekich, 51, in late September, but he was last seen in June of 2013.

"I was surprised. This is quite a calm neighborhood, to hear something like that, it's kind of earth shaking," Jerry Nelson, friend, said.
