Metra UP-NW train strikes vehicle near Mount Prospect station

MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. -- A Metra train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line struck an unoccupied vehicle Thursday afternoon near northwest suburban Mount Prospect.

Outbound train No. 635, scheduled to arrive in Crystal Lake at 6:10 p.m., struck the vehicle shortly after 5:30 p.m. near the Mount Prospect station at 13 E. Northwest Hwy., according to Metra spokeswoman Meg Riley.

All inbound and outbound train movement was halted in the area, but everything was on the move again by 7:10 p.m., Metra said. Trains were running 15 to 90 minutes behind schedule.
