OAK LAWN, Ill. (WLS) -- Oak Lawn police are investigating a fake call from someone claiming to have three people held hostage, police said.

The subject allegedly called police around 10:19 a.m. Thursday, claiming to have three people held hostage who lived in a home in the 5700-block of 90th Pl., officials said. The subject also allegedly made ransom demands and threatened to harm the hostages, police said.

Oak Lawn police said they set up a perimeter around the home, also contacting residents in the area about the family - later determining that the residents were not at home, except for a teenaged son, who was directed out of the house by police.

The call was determined to be a hoax after a search of the home, police said.

Police are investigating information in connection with the son's Internet and online gaming contacts, officials said.
