CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Cook County correctional officer was wounded outside his mother's home in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood. He had just finished his shift and was still in uniform when he was shot.

The 37-year-old officer was in an alley with his son near the 2800-block of South Tripp Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Monday, when investigators said a dark-colored van pulled up and someone inside opened fire.

The officer was struck in the leg. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized. He is expected to recover.

Police said the van they're looking for drove north out of the alley behind the victim's mother's house after the shooting. They do not have a description for the suspects.
