Omni Hotel guests encounter armed robber in room
Guests at the Omni Hotel on Chicago's Magnificent Mile found an armed robber in their room early Thursday, police said.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Guests at the Omni Hotel on Chicago's Magnificent Mile found an armed robber in their room early Thursday, police said.

Police said they walked into their hotel room around 1:30 a.m. Thursday and noticed a man going through their personal belongings. The man then ran from the room and the men confronted him when he got off the elevator.

The alleged robber pulled out a gun and then ran again, officials said. The men confronted him again in another part of the hotel, where one of the men struggled with him. The man again fled.

No one was hurt. Police said the man stole cash, but did not say how much.

Guests of the hotel said management did not notify them of the incident. The hotel's general manager corroborated the police account of the incident, but declined an on-camera interview.

Mark Gordon, president of the Illinois Hotel and Lodging Association, said he was concerned by the crime and that "there is nothing more important to our hotels than the safety and security of our guests."
