Person of interest questioned in South Chicago fire that killed 4

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Three weeks after a deadly apartment fire in the South Chicago neighborhood, Chicago police are questioning a person of interest.

The person was initially questioned after the fire but released two days later.

The fire happened August 23 in a three-story apartment building in the 8100-block of South Essex Avenue. Nearly 200 firefighters arrived to find the 32-unit apartment building engulfed in flames.

The fire killed four people including three young sisters: 3-month-old Melanie Watson, 7-year-old Shaniyah Staples and 4-year-old Madison Watson.

Kirk Johnson, 56, also perished in the extra alarm blaze. He was found in his third floor apartment.

So far, no one has been charged in the fire.
