Police: 2 dead, 16 wounded in weekend shootings

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two people were killed and at least 16 more have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday afternoon, police said.

A male was killed in the weekend's first shooting Friday afternoon in the Englewood neighborhood, according to police.

Ernest Hudson, 18, was shot in the head about 4:30 p.m. in the 6400 block of South Lowe, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m.

He lived in the 6500 block of South Green, according to the medical examiner's office.

A man was shot to death a couple hours later in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side, according to police.

The 20-year-old was found unresponsive at 6:18 p.m. in the backyard of a residence in the 10700 block of South Edbrooke, police said. He was shot in the head and chest and pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical examiner's office did not confirm either death Friday night.

The most recent nonfatal shooting was reported Saturday morning in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

A 19-year-old man was in the 3300 block of West 38th Street about 5:30 a.m. when a gray SUV pulled up and someone inside shot him twice in the back, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said.

A 30-year-old woman was on a porch in the 1100 block of South Sacramento in North Lawndale about 4:50 a.m. when a female walked up and shot her in the foot, police said. She was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Less than two hours earlier, two men, 23 and 39, were shot in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood. They were standing on the sidewalk about 3:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of West 21st Street when a dark colored car drove by and someone inside opened fire. The older man was shot in the side and the 23-year-old was shot in the back. Both men were taken to Stroger Hospital where their conditions stabilized, police said.

A 29-year-old man was standing on a corner about 2 a.m. in the 6500 block of South Ashland in West Englewood when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the back, according to police. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Shortly after midnight Saturday, four shootings were reported across the city within a 10-minute span.

A 35-year-old man was in a park about 12:25 a.m. in the 7600 block of South Racine when three males on bicycles approached, according to police. One of them pulled out a gun and shot the man in the back and left leg. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

About the same time, a 38-year-old man was shot in the left leg in the 6400 block of West Belmont, police said. He took himself to Community First Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

Five minutes earlier, a 22-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 10100 block of South Lowe when a male walked up and pointed a gun at him, police said. The 22-year-old ran off and the male then shot him in the leg. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized.

At 12:15 a.m., a 48-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of South Richmond when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to his right arm. He was listed in good condition.

At least seven other people have been shot across the city since 7 p.m. Friday.
