Highland H.S. lockdown lifted after police received threat

HIGHLAND, Ind. (WLS) -- Highland High School in Highland, Ind., was under lockdown for several hours Wednesday after police received a threat that callers would shoot students in the school unless they were given $2,000 in a garbage can.

The lockdown was lifted and students were released to their parents shortly before 3 p.m.

The threat came to the police department, officials say, and police tracked the phone number to Dallas.

Dallas police say that their investigation determined that the number was spoofed by an unknown individual. The owner of the phone in Dallas is not a suspect, police say.

Police are treating the threat as an active incident until they can prove otherwise. The FBI is assisting with the investigation.
