Illinois State Police said shots were fired on the Eisenhower Expressway Monday night.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- State police have reported two shootings on area highways, and they're looking into whether the incidents are in any way related.

The most recent shooting happened just after 8 p.m. Monday on the Eisenhower near Kostner. One driver fired shots at another, resulting in a shutdown of all westbound lanes on the Ike as investigators gathered evidence. One family that lives in the area hurried to get everyone inside.

"This is Chicago; this is Chiraq. All I heard was shots going off. 'Come on kids, let's get in the house.' We didn't know if it was fireworks or gunshots," James Williams said.

The other shooting took place Monday around 4:45 a.m. in Washington Heights. Someone in a green Chevy Suburban fired shots at another car on I-57 near Halsted, blowing out the rear windshield.

There were two women in the car that was hit. They say they didn't know the shooter, and neither woman was hurt.

State police thought there might have been another shooting in Lansing on I-80/94 early Tuesday morning. But investigators found it was likely debris, not bullets, that blew out a driver's rear windshield.
