Police: More than 6,000 illegal guns recovered in Chicago in 2014

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police said the department recovered more than 6,000 illegal guns so far this year.

The mayor's office said officers in Chicago recover more illegal guns that police in any other U.S. city each year. They mayor's office also said better federal and state laws are required to decrease the number of illegal guns coming into the city.

To date in 2014, Chicago has recorded the fewest murders since 1965 and the lowest overall crime rate in more than four decades.
