Keith Lee, 52, was arrested and charged Friday after search warrants discovered guns, narcotics and cash in a building that Lee's wife ran a state-licensed daycare center from, police said.

Lee, of the 1600 block of N. Monitor Ave., was arrested after police allegedly observed a narcotics transaction conducted between he and another male via surveillance. Lee allegedly entered his vehicle and left the scene, but was taken into custody around 2:50 p.m. after police curbed his vehicle, officials said.

After searching the building, police found two guns and 1,360 grams of cannabis, which has a street value of over $20,000, police said.

Neighbors expressed surprise and confusion, saying that Lee is a good neighbor who has helped clean up the area. He has looked after elderly residents and kept gangbangers from hanging out on the streets. They say they haven't seen evidence that Lee himself was into drugs.

Lee received felony charges for unlawful use and possession of a weapon, cannabis manufacture/delivery, cannabis possession of 30-500 grams and cannabis possession of 500-2,000 grams, officials said. He is scheduled to appear in bond court Saturday.
