Indiana State Police have issued a warning over a rash of thefts of valuable copper wire from highway light poles.

Police said the thieves have stolen thousands of feet of copper wire in recent weeks, particularly from the poles along stretches of I-80/94. They have cost the state more than $50,000.

State police asked drivers who see anything suspicious around light poles to call 911.
