CHICAGO (WLS) -- Up to four pellet gun shootings were reported along the westbound Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) between Central and 25th avenues within 24 hours, according to Illinois State Police.
A motorist involved in an alleged pellet gun shooting near East Avenue around 6:05 p.m. Thursday told police he heard shots before his passenger-side window shattered. A nurse at Loyola University Medical Center said she was on her way to work around 6:25 p.m. Thursday near Central Avenue when she heard pops and saw her rear passenger-side window shattered.
Rush University Medical Center's Dr. Brad Schubert told police his car was hit near 17th Avenue during rush hour on Wednesday, in the 6 p.m. hour. He found what looked like three holes in both passenger-side windows.
"I heard a hard sound on the car like rocks or something from a truck hitting the hood or the front windshield," Dr. Schubert said. "If they were something that had more force and able to penetrate through the one window, the one in the front passenger side would have hit me in the face or the chest."
Dr. Schubert said a similar incident took place four years ago. He was just outside the emergency room at Rush when someone shot three BB bullets into the side of his car.
The fourth possible pellet gun shooting reportedly took place near 25th Avenue around the same time as the incident involving Dr. Schubert. Authorities are still talking to the driver involved in the fourth possible incident.
State police are investigating and have not released a description of a suspect. They said if drivers find themselves in a similar situation, they should try to remember the exact location where they were hit, get off the road safely and call 911.
