CHICAGO (WLS) -- Rep. Tammy Duckworth and her husband Bryan welcomed a baby girl, Abigail O'kalani Bowlsbey, on Tuesday.

Duckworth said she and her husband are "thrilled" and proud to be parents. She said former U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka acted as a Hawaiian elder and chose her daughter's middle name.

"We are grateful for the love and support of our family and friends. We also appreciate the respect for our privacy during this important moment in our lives," Duckworth said.
