RIVERSIDE, Ill. (WLS) -- Riverside police arrested Miztli Reyes, 19, after two residents allegedly caught him leaving their home during an attempted burglary, officials said.

The residents allegedly caught Reyes walking out of a basement door carrying a backpack in their back yard Sunday around 3:20 a.m. in the 100-block of Groveland, police said. The residents were able to keep the suspect in the yard until police arrived, police said.

Reyes was taken into custody and police searched his backpack, finding alleged stolen property from the residence including alcohol, pocket knives, a portable safe, Xbox games and power tools, police said. The suspect submitted a statement to police admitting to burglarizing the home, and the victims identified and claimed the stolen property, officials said.

Reyes was already on bond for a Riverside arrest that occurred in July, in which he allegedly stole a Riverside Brookfield High School student's bike. He has been charged with felony residential burglary.
