CHICAGO (WLS) -- The State Street Bridge over the Chicago River will be closed for a week as part of the Chicago Riverwalk construction project, officials said.
The bridge will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday to 6 a.m. July 21 due to the installation of supports for a walkway underneath the bridge for the riverwalk, officials said.
Northbound #29 CTA buses and traffic will be detoured to LaSalle Street via Wacker Drive and then back to State via Illinois Street. Southbound buses and traffic will detour to Clark via Grand Avenue and back to State via Wacker.
Officials said this portion of the Chicago Riverwalk expansion includes creating a new path along the south bank of the river's main branch from State to Lake Street. The riverwalk project will be six blocks long when complete.
