WASHINGTON D.C. -- A top official with the Department of Veterans Affairs has resigned amid allegations of secret lists used to hide the long wait times for vets seeking treatment.
The scandal started at a VA hospital in Phoenix. The director there previously served as director of Hines Hospital in Maywood, Ill.
Today, Robert Petzel the Undersecretary for Health Care resigned. The Associated Press reports he was asked to step aside.
In Maywood, the director at Hines Hospital says there was no secret patient wait list at that facility. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) called for an investigation Wednesday into the possible existence of secret lists there.
