CHICAGO -- Chicago police confirm that a Dodge Ram crashed into a home on the 6800-block of South Michigan Ave belonging to 89-year-old Carolyn Smith after a police pursuit.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. and Smith slept through it, according to her niece Tracy. She has lived in the home for 62 years.

Police say the pursuit began at 1000 W. 69th Street and ended at 69th and Normal. The truck crashed into the home some time after the pursuit. One offender is in custody and no injuries have been reported.

The vehicle has not yet been removed from the home, and will not be removed until the Building Department deems it structurally safe to pull out. The gas is currently shut off as the truck struck and damaged gas lines, but avoided a fire or explosion.
