A woman who tackled an assault suspect explains why she did it

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Danielle Dodd was in Walmart Friday when she saw a man running by her and heard screams of "Catch that guy!"

She said she didn't think twice or stop to wonder what he had done wrong. She just followed him.

The man, who police have identified as 23-year-old Shane Owens, is now charged with felony sexual assault, among other things. The woman who he allegedly attacked was 16 weeks pregnant, according to ABC affiliate KAIT.

Shane Anthony Owens faces several charges, including felony sexual assault, after a pregnant woman said he groped her in a Walmart.

Surveillance video shows the moments before and after the pregnant woman says Owens groped her. As Owens is seen running away, the woman is clearly distraught.

Several good Samaritans chased Owens as he left the store. Dodd said someone placed a basket in his path, which slowed his progress before she tackled him outside of the store.

Owens said that the pregnant woman had stolen his money, but the Good Samaritans did not believe his story, keeping watch on him while they waited for police to arrive.

Though Dodd took the lead, she said the events leading to Owens' arrest were a group effort.

"It wasn't just me. I may be the one who initially took him down, but I was glad that everybody was there," she told KAIT.
