CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago woman robbed at gunpoint says she feels lucky she isn't one of those shooting statistics.

Police say it happened around 10:30 p.m. Monday night on Leland between Damen and Winchester in Ravenswood.

The woman, who doesn't want to be identified, was walking from the Brown Line stop at Damen to her apartment a block away. She saw a man exit a black four-door vehicle and appear to walk to an apartment, but his real target was her.

"He grabbed my arm, turned me around, had a gun at me and said 'Do you want to die?' I said no and I handed everything I had, my purse," the victim told Eyewitness News.

After she handed over all her possessions, the gunman told her to turn and run.

"With all the violence going on in the city right now, that just as easily could have been me. I mean, it's happening everywhere in every neighborhood, and people need to be aware of that," the victim said.

The woman had a mace key ring in her hand, but says that was no match for a gun.

Chicago police are investigating.
