HOUSTON -- A woman pushing a baby stroller in the Houston Heights found herself caught up in the middle of an armed robbery chase Wednesday morning. She was just an innocent bystander, but she's the one who was shot.

Houston police say two armed masked men robbed Paradise Smoke Shop on Yale Street.

"I was going to say hello to his mama," said nearby business owner, Jamie Reed. "I got back there and I heard a ruckus behind me, turned around and they're pointing guns at me."

Police say the suspects ran off with cash and stolen items.

And that's when at least one person inside the store decided to follow them. As he or she ran down the street, police say one of the suspects fired his gun.

"She was just walking," said Houston police officer Ricardo Rojas-Garcia. "Walking through the neighborhood and they were firing at the guy following them and she ended up getting hit."

She was shot in the leg and taken to a nearby hospital with non life threatening injuries.

The suspects are still on the run. Houston police are investigating.
