DES MOINES, Iowa (WLS) -- Two turkeys in Iowa got a special pardon, with a nod to the Chicago Cubs.

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad pardoned the two turkeys, saving them from the carving knife this Thanksgiving.

The lucky birds were named Bryant and Rizzo, after Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant and Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

Bryant was recently named the 2016 National League MVP. Rizzo won several awards after the Cubs won their first World Series in more than a century.

The turkeys will retire and live out the remainder of their lives on a farm.
