How to keep your pets safe this Halloween
Costumes, candy, and trick-or-treating, Halloween is fun for many people, but for pets, the holiday is fraught with danger.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Costumes, candy, and trick-or-treating, Halloween is fun for many people, but for pets, the holiday is fraught with danger.

When picking out a costume for your pets, make sure it's not too tight or too heavy, and doesn't have parts or fabric that can fall off and be chewed on. Trick-or-treating is a big event, but candy and chocolate are highly toxic for dogs and cats.

If you do take your pet out for trick-or-treating, make sure your pet has a reflective, highly visible collar and is properly ID'd.

Dr. Tony Kremer, owner of Kremer Veterinary Services, and a few of his patients, visited with ABC 7 Eyewitness News to talk about the dangers facing our pets this Halloween.
