HUNTINGTON -- An injured dog on Long Island is getting a second chance with a new family.

A pitbull named Miss Harper who had been severely beaten got a new home Tuesday.

The Nassau County SPCA says it selected a loving family to adopt her.

She was found in September with her ears and a leg cut off.

Three people have since been arrested on animal cruelty charges.

The story led the Nassau County Legislature to establish an animal abuse registry, making it a lot harder for convicted abusers to adopt or buy another pet.
