A dog and two cats were rescued from a burning home in the western suburbs overnight.

Neighbors saw heavy smoke and flames shooting out of a home in near the intersection of East Park Boulevard and South Monterey Avenue in Villa Park. The fire department received the call just after 10 p.m. Monday. Nearby residents said the fire was spreading fast.

First responders were able to get a dog and two cats out of the home safely before extinguishing the fire. No one was injured.

It appears the residents of the home were not inside. Neighbors contacted the son of the homeowners to alert the family.
