A female gray seal born on January 2, 2016, is the year’s first birth at Brookfield Zoo.
She was born to 11-year-old Lily
A gray seal pup with her mom Lily.
Gray seal pups are born with long, white fur called lanugo, which is molted in two to four weeks and replaced with shorter, stiffer hair similar to that of adults.
Although guests will most likely not be able to see the pup on exhibit at Pinniped Point before she molts, they can view updated photos and video of her on the zoo’s web site.

The two will be behind the scenes for several weeks to allow them to bond.
