CHICAGO (WLS) -- Miriam Enriquez, 61, is recovering after being struck in the neck by gunfire in her McKinley Park home early Wednesday - but she was not the intended target, police said.

Her sister, who lives across the street, says Enriquez was sitting on a couch watching TV when the bullets went through the first floor window of the home, located in the 3600-block of S. Honore.

"My brother in law was putting the car in the garage and heard the shots. He went running the house to see. When he got into the house she was laying down on the floor," said Catalina Gonzalez, Enriquez's sister.

Several neighbors heard the shots and immediately came outside to see what was happening. Among them was Rosario Martinez and her daughter.

"She saw a car going real fast and I told her right away, call the cops," Martinez said.

Police were able to chase the fleeing car and caught up with it after it crashed on I-55 and the driver was taken into custody.

Police say Enriquez was not the intended target of the shooting but they do believe it was gang-related and that it may have been sparked by an earlier argument between the gunman and a man inside the residence at the time.

"You really don't want to have this experience at all, because my mom was scared, everybody was scared," said Abundio Perez, a neighbor.

Enriquez is in stable condition at Stroger Hospital. Area Central detectives are investigating and no charges have been filed.
