TEXAS CITY, TX -- A woman whose four pit bulls killed a neighbor's dog last month is seeking damages of up to $1 million against the family that owned the dog.

Emerald White says in her lawsuit filed this week in district court in Galveston County that she was "seriously injured" when she entered her neighbor's yard to stop the attack and retrieve her dogs Oct. 27. The lawsuit says she suffered "multiple serious bite and scratch-type injuries."

The pit bulls had entered the yard through a hole in the fence separating the two properties.

The lawsuit further alleges that White's neighbors failed to confine their dog, a 10-year-old beagle named Bailey, in a secure enclosure.

The Galveston County Daily News says multiple calls to White's attorney were not returned.
