ONTARIO, Calif. -- Ontario police arrested a 16-year-old boy suspected of throwing a kitten into the street that was posted as a Snapchat video over the weekend.

Authorities were notified early Saturday about the social media video showing a young man launching the kitten into the air and across the street. Officers began an investigation and were able to identify the boy that same day.

He was found around 1:45 p.m. in the area of 7th Street and Berlyn Avenue in Upland. He tried to flee from police, but was tackled and taken into custody.

Authorities said the 16-year-old Ontario resident was booked into the San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of felony animal abuse.

The kitten and its owner were located after the video surfaced. The kitten, who suffered a fractured leg, is in good condition and recovering at the Inland Valley Humane Society.
