CHICAGO -- Former President Bill Clinton toured a Chicago steel plant as he campaigned for Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn on Tuesday.

Clinton and Quinn are focusing on the state's economic improvements as they speak to the workers at Wheatland Tube, which manufactures and distributes steel pipes and tubes.

"Maybe in the future, it's going to be better. Things are getting better, better, better in the last two, three, four years," Andrezj Mrozek, employee, said.

"We doing good business, real good business here. We got a lot of steel coming in every day and a lot of quality going out," Ronnie Newman, employee, said.

JMC Steel Group CEO Barry Zekelman said employees at Wheatland should feel confident about job security.

"I think everybody across North America feels that way. When a consumer feels that way, when the employees feel that way, they know they can put their head down on their pillow at night and know they're waking up to a job. I think it's great for the country," Zekelman said. JMC is the parent company of Wheatland Tube.

ABC7 Political Analyst Laura Washington calls it a slow but steady comeback.

"Yes, there are more jobs than there were 4 to 5 years ago. But the unemployment rate is still higher than the national average," she said.

Quinn's challenger, Bruce Rauner, will campaign in Rockford with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Tuesday.

"There is nothing Bill Clinton can say or do to change the simple fact Pat Quinn already raised your taxes once and he's determined to do it again in just over two weeks, even if he loses," Rauner said.

On Wednesday, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden will be in Chicago to support Quinn's reelection efforts.
