Illinois lawmakers welcome new law to help boost manufacturing jobs

LYONS, Ill. (WLS) -- Two Illinois lawmakers are welcoming the passage of a new law that requires a national plan to boost American manufacturing and jobs.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski drafted the bill and Republican Sen. Mark Kirk introduced it into the Senate. They discussed its goals in a visit to a Lyons tool plant on Monday.

"This will help grow American manufacturing, strengthen our national security and help the world's best manufacturers, some of whom are standing behind us today, put more Americans to work in good paying middle class jobs," said Rep. Lipinski.

The law requires the president to create a plan to promote American manufacturing at least every four years.
