CHICAGO (WLS) -- Cardinal Blase Cupich hosted a breakfast Tuesday morning to benefit Catholic schools.

The cardinal spoke for the first time since the Chicago Archdiocese announced the closure of five Catholic schools at the end of this year.

The 4th annual "Celebrating Catholic Education" breakfast was held at the Hilton Chicago with a focus of benefiting classroom technology and teacher coaching.

"One of the most important decisions parents make for their children is where their kids are going to go to school. We should make sure that all parents have that decision-making freedom and that power," Cupich said.

Proceeds also benefit students with specialized learning needs. ABC7 Anchor Alan Krashesky emceed Tuesday morning's event.
