American Express has some tips for re-gifting

CHICAGO (WLS) -- If you don't want to return or exchange a gift, there's always re-gifting, but there are some rules you may want to follow for that.

American Express came up with a few tips for re-gifting after finding 75 percent of people think it's an acceptable practice.

Check to make sure there's nothing personal like a card attached or inside the gift packaging before giving it to someone else. Don't re-gift old or used items, and think about keeping handmade or sentimental presents.

And if you do decide to re-gift, do it in different social circles. For example, if you receive a gift from a co-worker, don't re-gift it to another co-worker.
