Best holiday shopping deals offered on Thanksgiving Day, experts say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- If you're looking for the best deals for holiday shopping, you may want to start looking on Monday. The biggest price cuts of the season start on Nov. 24. The best day for deals is Thanksgiving Day.

Experts said there is one simple rule to follow: you shouldn't buy anything less than 30 percent off. Prices will almost certainly go even lower.

Smart shoppers are keeping an eye on their social media feeds. Many stores are trying to lure customers by posting discounts only on Twitter.

Jackie Bender, Crain's Chicago Business Style Contributor, also shared some holiday shopping tips.

Should consumers go out and shop Black Friday vs. waiting for Cyber Monday?

As a general rule, don't wait. Retailers release the deals earlier and earlier and for the last few years, Thanksgiving Day has become the best day for most deals over Black Friday or Cyber Monday. "Pre Black Friday sales" start on Thanksgiving Day - or even earlier - and plenty of them are going on now. Some items may even sell out by Black Friday. So the takeaway is that if you see an item you want at a good price. Don't wait!

There's no doubt you can get some great deals. It's becoming easier and easier to do so, since Black Friday is no longer just one day, but really a whole season that lasts for weeks into the holiday season. Another great time for deep discounts the week after Christmas. Some items that were discounted for Black Friday and didn't sell will be discounted even more.
