Long-awaited 'Shops and Lofts at 47' opens in Bronzeville

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A brand-new retail and residential development is now open in the city's Bronzeville neighborhood. The Shops and Lofts at 47 sits at the corner of 47th Street and Cottage Grove.

The $46 million development includes a street-level Walmart neighborhood market and 96 mixed-income rental units on the upper floors. The project was nearly seven years in the making, and many in the community hope it's a big step toward a revitalized Bronzeville.

Officials say this is the first project combining retail and housing in Bronzeville in over 50 years.
