A surge in online shopping is being blamed for fewer on-time deliveries, according to some shipping companies.

An industry tracking company says UPS delivered 91 percent of its packages on time last week. That's down six percent from the same time last year.

FedEx, which makes fewer household deliveries, also had lower than normal on-time deliveries.

UPS confirms it had issues at some of its hubs last week. The company says it has taken steps to alleviate those issues.

UPS, FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service are expected to ship more than 1.5 billion packages this holiday season. That's an increase of over 10 percent.
