Time running out for last-minute Christmas shoppers
The clock is ticking and time is running out to do any last-minute shopping for people on your Christmas list.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The clock is ticking and time is running out to do any last-minute shopping for people on your Christmas list.

'Tis the season for some last minute shopping and all over Chicago, people were obliging. From Michigan Avenue with its high end stores to the local strip mall all were clamoring for more.

"We're in town visiting from Arizona, so since we couldn't bring a lot of our presents we're getting some for our secret Santas," said shopper Jessica Schafman.

It certainly seems like these days more and more people are waiting till the last possible minute to do their Christmas shopping, and stores are happy to accommodate. Most are staying open till at least 6 p.m. and it's paying off. Between the improving economy and this year's mild weather, retailers on the Mag Mile are all smiles.

"Everybody is saying to me good to very good," said John Chikow, Magnificent Mile Association. "Considering that we had a short shopping season, Thanksgiving came so late, we've been so lucky with the weather. Everybody's happy."

While waiting till the very end can be stressful, some savvy shoppers thrive on it and on the great deals that can be had on this very last day.

"I waited till the last day because I do everything in my head first and then I go purchase. So i think I'm a purchaser, not necessarily a shopper," said Ria Steele.

"I went to Aeropostale," Tiffani Jackson said. "Everything was between 40-50 percent off. I came out of there with about six outfits for about 100 bucks."

For those ultimate procrastinators, Walgreens will remain open until midnight, with some stores going 24 hours. The big draw there is alcohol, candy and gift cards.

"The stressful part is going to be the wrapping, that's stressful," Janet Hunter said.

Toys R Us will open until 9 p.m. Wednesday, Target until 10 p.m.
