CHICAGO (WLS) -- Catholic Charities said it has an urgent need for toys by Wednesday for its annual toy drive.

The 69th Annual Catholic Charities toy drive has come up short this year and organizers said thousands of children could go without a gift this Christmas.

The agency said they still need 5,000 more toys by Wednesday to get them to needy families in time.

They have asked the public to donate toys to help children in need this holiday season. Donations may be dropped off at Catholic Charities headquarters downtown at 721 N. LaSalle Street or at one of their regional offices.

Every Christmas, 25,000 children and families in Cook and Lake Counties benefit from Catholic Charities Celebration of Giving.
