Clark After Dark festival supports military families
CHICAGO (WLS) -- An event that helps hundreds of thousands of military families each year got underway Thursday afternoon in River North.
"Clark After Dark" is sometimes referred to as summer's last "Hooah." The event got underway at 4 p.m. on Hubbard Street between Clark and LaSalle and goes until 10 p.m.
The event features live music, food and special displays of military vehicles.
Alison Ruble, the president and CEO is USO Illinois spoke with ABC7 about the event.
"That $10 can support a visit of three service members at our O'Hare Airport for example," Ruble said. "A donation of $50 supports a military child in one of our youth programs. Really, every little bit counts."
People at the festival are enthusiastic about supporting the men and women protecting the country.
"There are military out there every day on the front lines supporting us and so this helps I think the Chicagoland community remember and show their appreciation and connect to our military," Ruble said.
"It's great to be out here, support the troops which, gosh, they continue to step up to the plate and serve our country and it's just wonderful," said Kathy Thomas.
