Dare2Tri para-athletes to participate in Chicago Triathlon
The Chicago Triathlon is this weekend along Chicago's lakefront.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Participating in the Chicago Triathlon is an amazing feat for anyone who participates, but it's especially challenging for para-triathletes. The event is happening this weekend along Chicago's lakefront, from Monroe Harbor to Buckingham Fountain. The triathlon spans two days, with the elite athletes competing on Satuday and the open race that includes the physically-challenged athletes on Sunday.

We spoke to two of the para-athletes who are part of the Dare2Tri Team. Eyewitness News reporter Michelle Gallardo interviewed McKayla Hanson, Dare2tri Elite Team athlete, and Joe Labrie, Dare2tri athlete, during our news on Saturday morning. Hanson lost her right leg at 7-years-old due to a very rare bone cancer (rhabdomyosarcoma). Labrie was an able-bodied triathlete before becoming a below-the-knee amputee about 2.5 years ago.
