Donations from 2 Wrigleyville bars benefit Lakeview Pantry
CHICAGO -- While several Wrigleyville bars made headlines for charging large covers to watch the Cubs compete in the World Series, two establishments on the 3700 block of North Clark Street decided to handle the historic baseball series differently.
Instead of charging a cover, the GMan Tavern and music venue Metro suggested a $5 donation to the Lakeview Pantry.
On Wednesday, Joe Shanahan, the owner of GMan Tavern, Metro and SmartBar, presented Lakeview Panty with a check for $10,000.
In a statement, Shanahan said, "A win for the Cubs is a win for the whole community. We're very thankful to have called Wrigleyville home for 35 years and want to express our appreciation in a way that benefits the neighborhood."
Lakeview Pantry is opened in 1970 and is one of the longest-running food pantries in the city. Last year, the pantry fed 8,200 people.
Executive Director of Lakeview Pantry Kellie O'Connell said in a statement: "It's through community partnerships like these that enable our Pantry to distribute 1.3 million meals to our neighbors in need every year. The holidays are a particularly tough time for our clients and this donation helps ensure our neighbors in need have a Thanksgiving or holiday meal this season!"
