DuPage Human Race supports local charities
Non-profit organization Giving DuPage is getting ready for runners for the 5th Annual "The Human Race" 5K Run & 2-mile Fitness Walk on April 30, 2016.

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- Non-profit organization Giving DuPage is getting ready for runners for the 5th Annual "The Human Race" 5K Run & 2-mile Fitness Walk on April 30, 2016 at the Esplanade at Locust Point in Downers Grove. The race brings people together to support 73 local charities. Walkers and runners choose a charity to receive the donation from their race registration fee, with the option to raise additional funds for their favorite organization. To date, "The Human Race" has raised more than $255,000. Children under 13 are free. Pets, strollers, wheel-chaired participants and baby joggers are welcome in the Fitness Walk. ABC 7 joined DuPage County Board Member Bob Larsen, and Board Member on Friends for Therapeutic Equine Activities (http://www.ftea.org/) Jack Roberts, live from "The Human Race."

Admission: $40 for walkers; $45 for runners - can sign up to participate that morning

Giving DuPage offers residents an easy-to-use online volunteer tool that matches them to volunteer opportunities. Over 300 non-profit organizations have used this free portal to post volunteer opportunities. The portal is an effective way to highlight a cause and enlist volunteer support. To date, Giving DuPage has connected 6,000 residents to over 5,000 volunteer opportunities through this online tool.
