Girls leadership event held in Gary

GARY, Ind. (WLS) -- About 200 girls attended a Saturday a leadership conference in Gary, Ind., which was organized by the city and BrownGirl Village.

The all-day conference aimed to empower young women. The girls had the opportunity to meet professional women in different careers.

"The fact that they thinking about what goals, thinking about their wildest dreams, and doubling them, so they can just shoot for the sky because it's really the limit," said Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson.

Actor Hill Harper was a featured guest and ABC7 news anchor Cheryl Burton was named an honorary state representative.
