GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (WLS) -- One of the oldest businesses is DuPage County is closed for good Saturday night.

The McChesney & Miller Grocery Store in Glen Ellyn shut down, after more than 150 years in business.

It's been in this town since 1862, but it's never looked like this.

Bare shelves, empty deli counter. Everything must go, and so will McChesney & Miller. Saturday is not easy for these folks.

"I'm 48 years old and I've never done anything else, never wanted to do anything else," said Christine Darschewski. "You work with your grandparents, you work with your parents and my kids all worked here, my son Jeremy still works here."

Five generations of family members worked here. They just don't make stores like this anymore and that was part of the decision why they had to close.

"It costs more to open it then we were making, we just had to do it," said owner Bill Behrmann.

Emotions are felt today not just by the staff, but also the many customers that know this place will forever leave its mark.

"It's always been one of the constants in Glen Ellyn, especially the downtown area, a million merchants have come and gone but McChesney's has always been here," said customer KC Forman.

The family said that although the doors will officially close Saturday they do plan on being here for a couple of weeks to clean up and anything that's left on the shelves they plan to donate.

It is part of what this family stood for, giving back to their community, for over 150 years.

"Somebody asked me, 'Are you going to miss coming into work every day?' Coming to work every day, no, because I'll eventually be working someplace else and I'll be going to work every day, I'm going to miss the people, the customers," Darschewski said.

Some developers say they hope to build a mixed-use building at the site, with apartments and retail space.
