HOMEWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- A local teenager is trying to scare away hunger in suburban Homewood.

Destiny Watson is one of hundreds of students across the country volunteering time to make a positive impact with a grant from Disney's Summer of Service.

Watson is a member of a youth organization called You Matter 2.

For the second year in a row the group will be hosting a We Scare Hunger Haunted Trail to collect non-perishable food items for those in need.

"I want everyone to be able to have food, that's a basic necessity that everyone needs," Watson said. "Anywhere around this area people are struggling with hunger and people may not even realize it because they don't see it."

Last year the group collected over 300 canned goods to donate to the local good bank. This year, they plan to break their record.

If you have an idea to better your community, submit your idea for a chance to receive a $500 grant.
